The Alchemist’s Garden

Updated: Aug 15

I have traditionally not been a consumer of luxury brands and have redundantly expressed myself to be more of an admirer of quiet luxury. However, “The Alchemist’s Garden” has captured my eyes, my heart, and my olfactory system as well. Composed of 14 different fragrances formulated by Alessandro Michele, the fragrance profiles range from gourmand to floral to mysterious and smokey and all in and between the aforementioned.

A Chant for the Nymph is a fragrance unlike anything I’ve smelled before. To me, it is the most subtle bubble gum fragrance I’ve smelled though it is not long lasting at all. It's a fragrance that takes one back to warm summer days, chewing bubble gum outside with friends, the scent of flowers just briefly passing by, carried solely upon the wind. The fragrance dissipates within an hour of application and would better be described as a body mist.

The Virgin Violet presents itself as a very well done violet fragrance, similar to most, but especially not failing to offer the nostalgic kind of baby powder notes one is often aiming to experience when choosing a violet fragrance. To me this reminds me of the fullness of being with child, sleepy days, soft kisses, and hands that carry the softest touch, tapping your nose gently, causing a genuine and gently chuckle to emerge from the depths of your soul.

A Reason To Love- should not be worn by the faint of heart. This is a sensual kind of oud and rose, offering the strongest silage of the fragrances I've tried from this line. Reminiscent of the a late night, your eye being caught by a sparkling star disrupting the dark to whispers it that shines just for you, as you turn your face away to immerse your senses into a fresh bouquet of roses, gifted to you by a lover you know you could never keep and know that you'll never forget.

Osmanthus Nectar- this a pure golden honey fragrance and my favorite of the collection. It seems to want to guide you into a sacred dream, with notes of honey, apricot, and amber, there is a sweetness here that is so elegantly composed. Literally, the embodiment of the sparkle of wind chimes and honeyed tea, and the tickle in your stomach that comes when one is suspended in the air in the attempt to defy gravity.

1921- the most androgynous of fragrances here. A strong Neroli fragrance, this resembles Tom Ford's Neroli Portofino but is a bit more woodsy and spicy. For some reason, this reminds me of something a Spanish prince might wear at dinner post-fencing class, or something like that...

A Song For the Rose- As with many of the fragrances from this line, this is loyal to the classic and very naturally feminine fragrance of the rose. It settles into a powder distance rose on the skin and leaves one to offer the impression that they might have been pulling weeds from their English rose garden.

A Midnight Stroll- if one could encapsulate sin and debauchery and bottle it in the most sacred of ways, I do believe this is what it might smell like. Upon smelling, one is met with strong incense and smoke notes. This is a sexy and mature fragrance, and should only be worn by those experienced in the undercurrent of the virginal world.

Where My Heart Beats- one of my favorites from The Alchemist’s garden, this is a truly complex floral. With notes of peony, violet leaves, and white musk , it is a timelessly warm floral, and reminds me of the very timeless DiorJ’adore, only a bit more fresh smelling.
